Italian way product design Award 2017

The Arabic expression “Ahhlan w sahlan”, is a phrase commonly used to welcome guests into one’s home, and translates literally to “welcome to my dune”. Jozef + Felix took this as a literal starting point. They proposed a low marble table with an imprint of local dunes. Creating a balance between these two distinct worlds, between vastly different cultures and influences and drawing inspiration from the cornerstones of each culture and shaking it up.

They suggested improving the ergonomics of the traditional Arabic dining ritual, after intense research while respecting the local traditions and seating arrangements. Leading up to a fresh and organic design that mixes both the fluent lines of dunes, reminiscent of mid-century Italian car designs and “Made in Italy” marble from the Carrara region. A mix of two cultures is visible especially in the clash in materials.
